JOSEPH ALTON MILLER
Joseph Alton Miller crafts songs the way rivers carve valleys -patiently, powerfully, and with deep emotional gravity. A New Jersey-based singer/songwriter, Joseph’s music is steeped in the rich traditions of Americana, folk, and soul. With nearly two decades of experience recording and touring, he has shared stages with artists as varied as Brandi Carlile, Railroad Earth, Living Colour, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, bridging genres with grace and grit.
His critically lauded album Songs of Travel for the Vagabond earned a nomination for the No Depression Magazine Singer/Songwriter Award, while his 2020 poetry collection The Souls of These Boots revealed a literary voice as vivid as his melodies. Whether writing songs or verses, Miller is a storyteller first - one who captures the ache, hope, and quiet defiance of the human experience.
In summer 2025, he returns with a raw and intimate live album that invites listeners into the room - where breath meets string and truth rings clear. New singles are set to follow later in the year, continuing Joseph’s tradition of honest, heartfelt songwriting.
Outside of music, Joseph is an accomplished photographer whose work explores similar themes of solitude, beauty, and impermanence. Through both lens and lyric, he seeks to capture the kind of fleeting moments that define a life.
He lives in the countryside with his family, where the wind through the trees and the hush of morning light offer inspiration - and the next line in the song.

“Miller’s perfectly choppy chords on his acoustic guitar provide a vehicle with which to tell a story, but the beauty is, he sounds like Joseph Alton Miller, not anyone else. And the man can blow a harp with a fervor!”
“One of the best songwriters New Jersey has ever produced”
“Songs of Travel for the Vagabond is not only a fresh start, it’s one of the best albums of the year. If you’re a fan of folk music or Americana, this should be in your collection. ”
“His style is entirely his own, and his arrangements and compositions are executed with undeniable skill.”
“Miller’s work deserves to introduce him to a much wider audience. The grit and power in his voice is undeniable”
